Meet Dumbo the Cow

Lisa made fresh blueberry pancakes (using the blueberries that she and kids had picked on Friday) for breakfast and we used our maple syrup, too.

Bob picked these beautiful gladiolas from my flower garden to take to church today, but we forgot to take them. But when we arrived at church, one of the church members had brought a vase full of roses from his rose garden.

It was a good day. We went to church this morning and Bob's sermon was entitled "United". I played the piano and had the children's story. The story I told was about my boss when he went fishing and had an interesting experience with an Egret. When he pulled a fish out of the lake an Egret swooped down and tried to grab the fish, but Angel bopped the bird on the head with the end of the fishing pole. The bird went over to the side and just stood there watching him fish. Within another few minutes, Angel had another bite and when he pulled the fish out, the bird walked over and tried to grab this fish. Angel once again bopped the bird on the head, but this time the fishing line got tangled around the wing of the bird, so Angel had to help the bird get untangled. Then Angel made a deal with the bird. "If you just stand over there and leave my big fish alone, I'll toss you the little ones that I was going to throw back in the lake. O.K.?" Angel asked the bird. And the bird seemed to move its head in an agreement motion. So it was a deal. Angel tossed the small fish to the bird and the bird left the big fish alone. Working together unitedly made the fishing experience much better.

After church we went over to Lisa's parents house for lunch. Vanessa, Lisa's mom, fixed a delicious lunch which included fresh squash and corn, bow-tie casserole, veggie loaf and I took a cottage cheese salad and homemade bread. For dessert Vanessa had made three pies (blueberry, berry, and peach) yum!
We had an interesting conversation during our meal which went something like this:

Remember the days when . . .

A mouse was something you didn't want in your house?

Log-on was Will's dad's logging company telling the workers to keep working (logging).

The screen was a door that helped keep the flies out of the house.

A hard drive was driving from New York to California in two days.

A ram was an animal in the mountains
And there were more, but I can't remember them.

After lunch we went out and took a look at the cows. Dumbo, a Brown Swiss cow, is the lead cow. That's why she wears the bell so the other cows will follow her to the milking barn each morning and evening. She is the kids favorite cow because she is so gentle.
John gave Gracie a ride on the back of his wheelchair.

Lisa's parents sent home fresh milk and butter with us.

Mmm.. those pancakes sure look yummy! I love those brown cows. Those are the kind we saw in Switzerland with a big bell around their necks. That fishing story had me laughing.
