Bob is still working on the closets in our bedroom. He spent several hours today working on my closet door.
Preparing the door facing so he can install the hinges.
It's hung, but it's too narrow, so he had to take it off and haul it downstairs, outside to the garage and then I helped him run it through the table saw cutting another 1/4 inch off so it would be a clean cut so he could glue an inch of wood to the side.
This is the bottom of the door where he added wood to make the door the right height.
A picture of both closet doors in their rough stage. You will be amazed when Bob finishes these closets and they have door knobs and are painted. I'm looking forward to having all the woodwork in the bedroom painted. I'm not too fond of the original blue.
This "Old House" has come a long way since we bought it two and a half years ago. When we bought it, it was literally falling down. I didn't want it, but Bob saw the potential. I still think he wanted it just because it had two old barns, 59 acres, good soil, and good water. The house was just a bonus. There is still a lot of work to be done, but the house is livable and I can deal with finishing it over the next few years.
This was home sweet home for eight months while we worked on the house. My cousin, Tony, also lived with us.
The front of the house - Before
The front of the house now. We still have work to do, but it's an improvement.
The side of the house - before.
The back half of the side of the house - before.
The side of the house now. More work to be done.
The kitchen - before.
The kitchen - now.
The entry - before. The only bathroom in the house was in the entry along with the washer and dryer. You had to go through the bathroom to go upstairs unless you used the stairs in the dining room.
The entry - now. We put a half bath under the stairs. The door you see in the picture was the door we found out back on the outhouse. The latch is the original one that was on the outhouse door.
The family room - before
The family room - now. This old square grand piano was Bob's mom's. My piano is in the parlor.
There were two very small rooms downstairs that had a foot-wide arch between them with no doors. We made them the guest bed and bath. The floors were so bad in these two rooms, we were not able to keep the original floors. We put a marble floor in the bath and carpet in the bedroom.
This is the bathroom vanity in the guest bath downstairs. We found the dresser at an antique store and Bob refinished it and made it into a vanity. He was able to cut the drawers so that even though the sink and plumbing take out part of the drawers, all of the drawers are usable.
The dining room - before.
The dining room - after. The bead-board wanes coat is the original.
I was just going to give an update on the closets in the master bedroom. I think I got a little carried away.

What an interesting blog. I'm amazed at all you have done to the house in such a short time. Bob must be extremely handy and spending lots of time working on the house. Living in the motor home for 8 months must have seemed like eternity.
Just think of how the value of your house has grown.
You have done a beautiful job of decorating your house and it's so cozy.
Rachel sent me your email address so once my daughter and grandchildren are back in Moscow and life is back to dull, I'll have the time to email you the cream cheese spritz cookie recipe.
You guys really should go on "This Old House" or some remodeling reality show. Maybe you could get some money (to finish the rest!)
It has definitely come a LONG way. (and it looks great)
I love your home... I just love century homes.... its beautiful
Your house really has come a long way. I can't believe what a dump it was when you bought it and you'd never know it to see it now. I would have never taken on such a challenge. We remodelled our house but not ourselves, it was done by hired help which is the easier but much more expensive way to do it.
Absolutely amazing!! Found your blog through one of your daughters and not sure how I got to hers! :) You know how it gets in blog land, one thing leads to another. What a beautiful home you have!
